MER set to lose Nuneaton response car
Midlands Emergency Response are reaching out to the local community to ask for your support as we search for a new car to respond with in Nuneaton
We have been kindly supported by Research Garage in Nuneaton, who donated a Fiat 500X in February 2016 to give MER’s dedicated CFR Jean Harris a reliable vehicle to carry out her role in and around Nuneaton. Since then Jean, who won an award for her outstanding service to the people of Nuneaton in 2017, has racked up nearly 2500 hours of volunteering in the Fiat and has attended nearly 700 patients in Nuneaton and surrounding areas.
“Having a dedicated car to respond in has made my role much easier and has allowed me to reach more patients. The car was fitted with two-way communications equipment and a sat-nav, making the response process quicker and most importantly, shaving off vital seconds of the time it takes to respond to life-threatening cases,” Jean said.
She added: “I would like to say a huge thank you to Ben, Rob and Jason from Research Garage in Nuneaton for all of their help and support over the last two years.”
Unfortunately we recently received the news that the Fiat will have to be returned in April as the garage can no longer support us. Trustees are now reaching out to local car dealerships in the hope that a new donor will come forward to offer their support.
Last summer the charity asked the public to help keep the car insured for another year and the response was fantastic, raising over £400 in the first 24 hours alone and more than £900 in total.
Local councillor Dan Gissane has long-supported the charity and has recently become a Trustee of MER.
“It’s sad to know we’ll be losing the car but we are grateful to Research Garage for allowing it to be used for the last two years,” Dan said.
“The car has hi-viz livery and has given volunteers a higher profile as people all over Nuneaton and North Warwickshire have seen the car out and about responding to calls.
“As a charity organisation the scheme relies on the support of the community and we are lucky to have been supported by generous local people and businesses.
“Finding a new car would allow our responders to carry on their good work for years to come.”
Midlands Emergency Response is a Coleshill based charity and our trained volunteers respond on behalf of West Midlands Ambulance Service, serving patients in and around the local area and operate predominantly Coventry and North Warwickshire.
